Jennifer Edwards, Co-Editor-in-Chief

Along with writing, she runs cross-country, is a captain of the track and field team, contributes to yearbook , is a member of National Honor Society and participates in Link Crew. She hopes to one day attend a university in California, work in England and run her own music magazine. In her spare time she invents new slang, collects music trivia and contributes to the AP Euro blog, “The Defenestration of Fail.”

Nathan Guyer, Sports Editor, Homecoming Prince

Nathan Guyer is a sophomore this year at Summit. He is in his second year of New Staff and has the grand title of Sports Editor. In between his trips to the Red Sea for underwater basket weaving competitions, he enjoys free climbing Monkey Face, back flipping off his roof, and preparing for his next full contact origami match.  Then, when he wakes up from his crazy dreams, he usually goes about his day just trying to live the best life he can, always finding new ways to challenge himself. He hopes to one day be the type of person that his dog thinks he is.

Sarah Edwards, Snapshot Co-Editor

Sarah Edwards is a sophomore, who most people know by the name “Eddie”.  She participates in cross-country, basketball and track and field at summit. Eddie is pro at being awesome and she is also varsity at life. She spends countless days perfecting her “blue steel” look for the next big modeling shoot. Eddie enjoys eating hot pockets on Wednesday afternoons in June when it’s raining, as well as super fanning in crazy attire at every game possible. Keeping it classy is something Eddie does quite well. She loves taking breaks from the hard labors of life and escaping to the wonderful oasis of Taco Salsa, where she orders her usual, the large bean burrito.  Taking a tasty picture also tickles Eddie’s fancy.

Madeleine Dunkelberg, News Co-Editor

Maddie Dunkelberg (News Editor and all-around spiffy kid) is a sophomore whose one ambition in life is found the Scott W. Carroll Fan Club. Ms. Dunkelberg is involved with too many extra-curricular activities, including band, drama, news staff, tennis, and dance. Somehow she still manages to get good grades, but what do you expect from someone with such a cool name as “Dunkelberg”? Recently, she had a blast playing the role of Emily Brent, the religious old spinster, in Summit’s Production of “And Then There Were None”. In her almost non-existent spare time she enjoys laughing at Ali Kinkade when she does stupid things (which is often), dancing and listening to her favorite local artsy band, The Prodigy Pals. She would like to take this opportunity to point out that applause and sheep really do have a lot in common.

Kirsten Morrell, Features Editor

Kirsten Morrell is a spontaneous, fun loving and independent 17 year old. When she isn’t working on the paper or doing something cheer related, she likes to spend her time going on walks, being thrown in the air and playing with her dogs. Kirsten enjoys the color pink, chicken-vegetable stir-fry, lounging on giant monkeys, Taylor Swift and getting lost in Deschutes River Woods. In the future, Kirsten would like to attend University of Oregon, vacation in New York City and lunch in Paris. She hopes to someday own and run a party planning business and be a journalist for an important magazine or newspaper. In the meantime Kirsten cheer’s for her school and writes for her newspaper. She also loves her bestest buddy, Lizzie Peeps, Features Editor.

Caleb Nyberg, Tempest Editor

Caleb Nyberg is the senior Tempest editor. He can often be seen working at Blockbuster West or creating on his world-renowned wildlife sculptures. His passions include writing, marine biology, and oxford commas. He attributes his small intelligence to Bill Nye videos and House, as well as Mr. Moehl. He enjoys the finer things in life, such as raspberries, Brooks Brothers, and gangsta rap. Writing is his chosen career, and he has interned for Combined Communications and is the Student Columnist for the Bend Bulletin.  He is a philosopher, professional taxidermist, and is wanted for arson. If you have any information regarding his whereabouts, please contact Karen Rosch.

Sydnee O’Loughlin, Opinions Co-Editor, Photographer

Sydnee O’Loughlin typically resides in Summit’s library, where she spends her time lording over the other aides and partaking in witty banter with the librarian, Mrs. Overcash. If not in the library, you’re most likely to spot her in McCormick’s room (where she enjoys discussing literature, collaging, politics and exquisite rhetoric structure/style — she also absolutely adores arguing and alliteration), the Blackbox (where she participates in an obscure art form know as “acting”),  or Rosch’s room (where she writes and edits and all that jazz). If you catch sight of her in the halls, she’s most likely strutting, sashaying, or flouncing to her destination. A dedicated fashionista, she plans on attending the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising to pursue a career in Visual Communications. She’s the president of the Gay-Straight Alliance, a Human Dignity Coalition board member, and passionate about activism (human rights, animal rights, the environment, this liberal list goes on and on…).  Sydnee collects buttons and witty sayings in her spare time.

Elizabeth Peoples, Features Editor

Liz Peoples, known as Peeps to some, Liz to all and Lizzie to a special few, is an independent, stubborn and lively 16 year old. She enjoys watching movies like a pro, reading, cooking, driving, jamming out to her music and hanging with friends and family. Watching Grey’s Anatomy and Bones every Thursday night is must no matter how much schoolwork she has to do. She plans on majoring in psychology at the University of the Undecided, and being a child psychologist.

AJ Untermeyer, Snapshot Co-Editor, writer

AJ has a passion for photography and writing sports. He is currently a sophomore and plays football and runs track at summit. He also enjoys attending Duck sporting events and plans to attend U of O after high school. He spends most of his days working on snapshot and getting yelled out by Rosch for not having epic cropping abilities.

Ali Kinkade, News Co-Editor

Ali Kinkade is a sophomore who hopes someday to be as talented as Scott W. Carroll. Acting is her first love, fixing people’s comma errors for the paper is a close second. She is super duper proud of her awards in last year’s journalism Olympics. When she isn’t coming in at outlandish times for rehearsals and last-minute editing, Ali enjoys laughing, cheering on her favorite local band (The Prodigy Pals), superfanning, seeing shows, looking for more auditions, trying to keep up with AP homework, improving her hand-eye coordination, and putting people’s staplers in jello. She was recently seen as a dancer in ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ and at the Tower Theatre for any reason she can think up. This March she will play Dorothy in ‘The Wiz’, which she is shamelessly promoting. She would also like to point out to Maddie that applause and sheep are two extremely different things and she is proud to know Peter, who was on Zoom.

Megan Manion, Opinions Editor

Megan Manion is currently a senior at Summit and an avid debater.  As co-captain of the Summit Speech and Debate team, Megan spends most of her free time preparing Lincoln Douglas debate cases and filing articles in the newly refurbished Extemporaneous Speaking tubs. As a member of Honor Society, Megan donates a great deal of time to volunteering in Central Oregon and as much, if not more time working at Old Navy. During Mock Trial season, Megan loses her touch with reality and spends hours preparing for the examination of fictional criminals and loves every minute of it. She hopes to follow her passion for politics, law and international humanitarianism through Willamette University and law school. As an ardent reader of Newsweek and the Economist, a love matched only by her dedication to the intellectual literary stylings of Fareed Zakaria.

Hannah Goldstein, writer

This is Hannah Goldstein’s first year working on the Eye of the Storm, mainly because, as a freshman, this is her first year at Summit. She really likes to write, which is nice because being a writer for the school newspaper requires her to write a lot. Outside of school she dances, which takes up the vast majority of her free time. Those few hours that she’s not in school or sleeping or dancing, Hannah enjoys listening to very intense (and mostly English) music, hanging out with the yin-to-her-yang/ best friend, attempting to learn how to play the guitar, and laughing. She would like to continue writing for the paper next year.

Right now, and probably for the rest of his life, Nick St. Clair loves music from the 80’s. His favorite bands include Boston, Journey, The Police, Kansas, U2, The Fray, Muse, and just about any other Alternative or Rock group. Will Lane is a freshman that loves to hangout with friends and having a good time. He enjoys downhill skiing and playing video games on rainy days. His favorite kind of food is Mexican and he doesn’t play sports that involve running because he blew out his knee.  Will really wants to leave the state for college and has no idea what he wants to be when he grows up.  Right now he just wants to focus on getting good grades and enjoying high school.

Savanna Jones, writer

Savanna Jones is in her third year at Summit.  She enjoys writing for Eye of the Storm especially since she is the number one reporter.  She is the #1 Champion two years in a row at the National Hot Dog Eating Contest.  She takes great pride in winning.  She is currently dating Robert Redford from the 1970’s, when he was in his prime.  She loves Lance Armstrong because he is the greatest cyclist of all time and is quite handsome.  She is a poker champion and co-author of a novel with Emily Shultz, the novel will be published next spring.  Alas, she has not seen her favorite artist, the great Neil Young, in concert and would give her white bearded dog to see him.  She hopes to land her own reality show after she fakes losing her son in a balloon.

Kaoma Ponce, writer

Kaoma Ponce is her name; born on February fourteen she is considered a ‘valentine baby’.

She has no idea where her parents got her weird name from. She was born in to a family of five people in total and her parents are still married. Kaoma is the youngest out of three, both of her older brothers are now married, and her family of five is slowly growing. Because of her huge family of aunts, uncles, niece’s, nephews’ and about forty cousins [or more] she completely sucks at it. Her favorite sports would have to be volleyball, track, and soccer [in that order]. Some of her major goals would be finishing high school in the first place and get into a Photography and Computer Design School. After, during, or in the future she hopes to be living in California.

Christina Willden is a sophomore this year, and has an undying love for singing. When she’s not cooped up in her room, belting out her favorite tunes, she enjoys skateboarding and hanging out with her best friend Ashley Darling. She currently has all A’s in her classes and has only missed one day of school due to the pesky flu going around. Christina’s bubbly, outgoing, and not afraid to get what she wants. She’s a down to earth Juggalette, and represents the Hatchet with pride

He does these shots because it’s fun to do.  He strives for photos that look natural, faithful color and simplistic post processing (Photoshop) is the style he likes. This year he will be shooting at Mt. Bachelor and participating in local contests.
