Cross country celebrated the girls first state title and the boys fourth place finish at the state meet last weekend.

Clark took more than 20 runners to the state meet on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Lane Community College.

Alyssa O’Connor finished third individually with a time of 18:58.6, Megan Fristoe finished fourth with a time of 19:04, and Kellie Schueler finished fifth with a time of 19:07.2. This put all three runners in the top five and helped their team to their first state championship by 48 points.

The girls were only beat by Kellie Foley of Crook County (18:32.5) and Kayleigh Tyerman of Crater (18:55.6).

All five of the Summit girls scoring runners were in the top 13.

“I didn’t think we would do this well,” said junior Schueler. “It was so exciting.”

For the boys team, junior Pat Madden finished 19th with a time of 16:46.1, and senior Tosch Roy, 25th, came in at 16:53. The boys ended up with a fourth place trophy, trailing Crater, Cleveland, and Klamath Union.

“It was a lot of fun competing against such great runners. I’m really proud of how my team did,” said Madden.

Clark took more than 60 of the top runners to the district meet in Drake Park the previous weekend where both teams took the IMC title.

In the varsity girls race, Fristoe came in first for our team, and second place overall with a time of 19:12, helping the girls team win their third consecutive district championship by almost 50 points.

Schueler came in third place with a time of 19:30, followed by O’Connor in fifth place at 19:33.2.

Madden came in first for the Storm in the varsity boys race, and second overall with a time of 16:59.3, only being beat by Hermiston runner, Jordan Ringe who ran a 16:37.5. Roy followed them, crossing the finish line third with a time of 17:08.3. Tyler Walsh wasn’t far behind in fifth place, with a time of 17:26.4.

The boys team also took first place.

“We have so many good runners this year, it’s incredible to watch them perform at each meet,” said head coach Dave Clark.

The team prepared for the district and state meets throughout the season at various classic and invitational meets.

On Sept. 27, the team attended the North West Classic in Eugene, Oregon. Girls varsity came in first, boys in fourth.

In the Oct. 4 race, The Puma Classic, the Girl’s Elite Varsity took second, the boy’s tied for sixth. O’Connor came in first for summit and third place overall with a time of 19:09.

Madden was also our first runner in, in the boys race, in 13th place with a time of 16:57.2

The team traveled to Portland the next weekend for the Adidas Classic in Fernhill Park. Elite varsity girls took second place and boys took 16th.

The JV teams also did well, girls coming in second place, boys in eighth.

Storm cross country’s next big move will be their journey to regionals on Nov. 15.

A possible injury on the girls cross country team could prove a problem in regionals but either way the Storm plans to do well.
